When it comes to cleaning your apartment before your move-out date, it can be difficult to determine when you're actually going to have time to spend hours cleaning and scrubbing and mopping in between all the moving of boxes. This is when you will want to consider hiring professionals to clean your apartment for you. After all, they are likely to get it done quicker and leave your apartment in pristine condition that almost guarantees you receive your deposit back. Here's what you need to know before you hire one, though:

  • Know how the charges work: Most cleaning companies will charge by time spent. However, it's important to keep in mind that many companies have a minimum amount of time that they will take. For example, some companies will only offer two-hour cleaning for a set rate, but this probably means that they won't be able to provide a thorough job if you have a three-bedroom apartment that hasn't been cleaned in a while. If this is the case, then it is probably best to hire a company that offers more time or charges by the intensity of the job, not by the time.
  • Clean before they clean: Many people find it silly when they hear someone say, "I have to clean the house before the maids come over." However, this is exactly what should be done. Of course, you don't have to whip out the broom and mop, but you should be sure that the floors are clear of clutter, the counters in the kitchen are clear, and more. The more that you do, the more the cleaning service can focus on the most difficult areas, such as cleaning behind the toilet, scrubbing the bathtub, and more.
  • Ask what their limitations are: All cleaning services will have specific limitations on what they will clean and what they will not. For example, most cleaning companies will not deal with excessive pet urine and almost all will never deal with black mold. This is because black mold is heavily toxic, which is best left to specialists in black mold removal to deal with.
  • Know how to tip: Tipping, of course, is always up to you. However, the most generous thing to do is to always consider tipping an extra 10%. Most cleaning companies, though, will already include gratuity in the payment; just be sure that you check whether or not it is there so you aren't overtipping if you don't need to.

Contact a cleaning company like Service King to find out what they can do for you.
